April 3, 2005: Helix construction

After working out a design for the helix using identical pieces (see Layout section), I evaluated it a little further and realized that each circle of the helix would have to have custom cuts & notches in order for it to fit in my small space. I decided this was not the way to go, and leaned toward a more traditional "cut plywood" form, with my own twist.

Due to the small space, I had to come up with a strange shape design for the plywood pieces. The result is a helix with wings, so to speak. The wings are where the supports for each level will be located. Check out the photos for more.
