1930s Bethesda bridge over Mass Ave

Depicting original appearance of Bridge #10 on the Branch. Construction began around Jan, 1933 and it was put into service on Aug 25, 1933, as Mass Ave was being extended to access the neighborhood. Prior to that there was just a simple fill here. The original stone façade was arched and a bit more ornate. In 1973 the façade was completely changed; they removed the arch and widened the roadway, taking away the small sidewalks and allowing for more traffic to pass beneath. They built wings and added the 11'9" pedestrian tunnels.
