B&O F7 #956 weed control train at Bethesda
Aug 4, 1955. After hearing a strange whistle from his porch, the photographer ran down to Bethesda to capture this unusual sight. A weed control train pausing in Bethesda on its way down the line. View is roughly NW from Bethesda Ave. east of the crossing. The F7 is approximately where the water column was located during the steam era.
2021 UPDATE: So, after conversing with guru Jim M. and consulting his outstanding B&O Diesel Roster book, I learned that this unit was actually 955A; given the 956 number temporarily whilst separated from mate, 955. And, the big news - this unit is a SURVIVOR. It operates TODAY on the Seminole Gulf Ry. as power car #902. UNBELIEVABLE. https://youtu.be/ByL-0hOIxeE?t=597 More photos and backstory on this unit found here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/LocoPicture.aspx?id=114751
